Wintertime in Daryasar…

Say hello to Kattegat…

Daryasar is truly one of the most spectacular locations in Iran!
A breathtaking plain surrounded by proud, towering mountains that can captivate you for hours—if not forever.

I coordinated the Daryasar trip with my dear friend Taregh, who lives in Tonekabon. He had already hiked this route in spring, and when he heard that I wasn’t particularly interested in seeing Daryasar during spring or summer—and that I was deeply drawn to its winter charm—he eagerly joined me on this winter adventure.

Asal Mahalleh

Asal Mahalleh was the first stop on our way to Daryasar.
This is where you have to park your car and enter the hiking trail that passes through a forest completely blanketed in white.

In Asal Mahalleh, I noticed a car with a 29 T license plate parked in front of a small shop. I assumed it belonged to a visitor like us. But as soon as we stepped inside, the shop owner—his face lit up with excitement—asked me before I could even say anything: “Are you from Kermanshah?”
We chatted for a bit, and after buying a few things, we set out toward the beloved Daryasar trail…!

The Forest Route

Almost 80% of the forest trail from Asal Mahalleh toward the Daryasar plain is steep, so you should be prepared for it—especially if you’re hiking in winter, as it definitely comes with its own challenges!
It’s preferable to bring a trekking pole with you.

The trail is incredibly beautiful. You can enjoy every single moment of it. There’s no need to carry water, as there’s a spring along the way, and once you reach the plain, there’s also piped spring water available near the cabins.

I recommend staying focused on the trail—skip the music and enjoy the conversation with nature instead.

In the Embrace of Daryasar

As we took the final turn of the trail and the plain slowly revealed itself, the view was nothing short of extraordinary.
It carried an intense, almost magnetic energy—and in my belief, it welcomes those who truly love nature and can connect with it on a deeper level.

You will undoubtedly find yourself captivated by its overwhelming beauty.
Those who had arrived before us greeted us warmly and with genuine hospitality, as if we all shared an unspoken understanding of Daryasar’s winter magic.

Camping and Overnight Stay

Camping on routes like Daryasar—especially in winter—is a completely different experience.
Never attempt it without prior experience, and don’t put the unique joy of this journey at risk through trial and error.

Beyond the plain, an exciting mountaineering route awaits you. If you wish to continue further, it’s not advisable without previous experience and an experienced companion.

We settled at the beginning of the valley, near a cave with a dry floor, set up our warm and welcoming fire, and turned to our beloved tea.

At the end…

Be sure to include Daryasar in your travel plans.
Try not to visit during crowded times, and avoid joining large tour groups. Daryasar is far too delicate to bear our heavy presence—let’s help keep it beautiful and vibrant.

I share only brief notes on this website, but if you decide to travel to any of these destinations, you’re welcome to contact me for more detailed information.
